The biggest wind farm in Turkey, Enerjisa Bares Wind Power Plant in Balikesir in the west of the country, has started producing electricity. The plant, built with a €135 million syndicated loan arranged by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, will increase Turkey's current wind power-generated electricity by about 8% and help the country diversify away from expensive imported fossil fuels, the London-based lender said in a statement on its website. The energy that Bares started producing Saturday can provide clean electricity to about 170,000 households in Turkey. Enerjisa Energy Company, the owner of the power plant, is a joint venture of Sabancı Holding and Germany's E.ON.
